They are basically taking the beginning steps into making it a moviegame and I bet this was influenced by Snoy moviegames and their relative popularity among normies. His reactions with other people was limited to so that the player could quasi self-insert but keep him a real character with Dead GF marker manipulation. The game's atmosphere is boosted by the main character not making any real sound other than movement and subtly influencing how the player feels via heavy breathing, grunting, etc. So I didn't mind him getting a voice, especially since Gunner Wright did a pretty decent job giving the character his personality. It's exactly how I'd imagine the personality of an everyman problem solving engineer who has killed hundreds of necromorphs to be, the perfect balance of fearful but proactive, angry but just emotionally exhausted overall. Normally I'd say no but I honestly buy Issac's personality from a writing perspective in Dead Space 2.
